Modern Architecture - The Greenest Super Development in Turkey

Architecture group RMJM recently unveiled details of a $1 billion development it is designing in Istanbul’s new residential and business district. Set on a 1.15 million square foot parcel, the VARYAP Meridian Project will be built out to 4 million square feet.

The luxury 60-story tower features 1,500 residential units, a five-star hotel, offices, and conference facilities.

RMJM are designing the project to LEED standards and have carefully analyzed the site to take advantage of the surrounding topography, climate and context. It would be the first mixed use development of its kind in Turkey. Eco-friendly design features include rainwater collection sites and facilities to optimize water usage and reduce energy consumption, wind turbine technology, cooling water pools that enhance the external landscape and a co-generation plant that will produce electricity for the development.

The project, which is expected to serve 20,000 people, is scheduled to be completed in 2011.

Truly a shame on a project like this that they failed to take visual pollution as part of the greenness of the project. The goals are worthy, the "ediface complex" a major fail.
