We went on a tour of the distillery in TN while visiting my sister. It's a pretty good tour. Apparently, Tennessee whiskey is different from other whiskey in that it's filtered through maple charcoal.

This I cannot tell you. Whiskey is like wine, there is never a best one, but many very good ones. Personally, I like the Connemara (Irish) but also the Talisker (Scottish) goes down very well. However, I am not an expert.

It's down to personal taste. Some folks prefer blended whisy, and some folks like a signal malt, which is a very different animal to Jack Daniels.
