They actually used some of the Abyss techniques in Terminator 2 as well. The Matrix could be on there too.

I would had included '2001: A Space Odyssey' as a landmark film, and perhaps a nod to 1978's 'Superman' that made us believe a man could fly more than a quarter of century before 'Spiderman 2'.
