Who says birds don't have feelings?

Here his wife is injured and the condition is fatal.  She was hit by a car as she swooped low across the road. Aware that his sweetheart is dead and will never come back to him again,  he cries with adoring love. He stood beside her, saddened of her death. Finally aware that she would never return to him, he stood beside her body with sadness and sorrow. Millions of people cried after watching this picture in America and Europe and even in Asia . It is said that the photographer sold these pictures for a nominal fee to the most famous newspaper in France .  All copies of that   newspaper were sold out on the day these pictures were published. And many people think animals don't have a brain or feelings?????

I'm not an #Ornothologist but I know some species of birds do mate for life and appear to show sadness at the death of their mate. Wonderful pics.

Wow - *cries* as well. I have a late born woodpecker in my yard. I finally got a feeder for him, put it in the shelter of the carport where the boat is. Every day since I did that he comes to his favorite tree, poses for me when I have my camera, stares at me and bobs his head. I guess he is trying to say "thanks".

animals do have feelings, and we as human beings should remember that
and help them whenever we can.

Wait a minute... I live in France and never heard of that story. I did a little search on the Internet, and the pictures come from a photographer named Wilson Hsu, see http://photo.net/photodb/user?user_id=970488 . I guess the story was invented afterwards since it's the same text repeated on several websites since 2004 when the pictures were taken.

I've gone through a fair share of loss. However, I remember my cat's reactions to things I'd do, she definitely reacted to loss. The boyfriend that broke my heart but I took him back? Yeah, she reacted. The year I moved abroad (to her, I guess, just disappeared for a few weeks). She reacted. (RIP Kitty - my darling died at 19 a few weeks ago.)

Sentient beings definitely react to loss. Humans don't have a monopoly on that. Wonderful pictures.

I remember some time ago there was a programme on BBC Radio about blackbirds, and some of the stories there were quite touching. I like to make friends with the local birds - the small ones anyway!
