This is disturbing. I don't think one can justify calling the attention of the horrors of one tragedy by belittling another. As far as I know, the tsunami was not an orchestrated man-made act of terror. This is comparing apples and oranges.

I just learned that this ad was not authorized by the WWF and they have condemned the tasteless ad. http://www.mediabistro.com/agencyspy/news/that_wwf_ad_yeah_its_fake_130002.asp

People from other countries do not personally identify with 9-11 attacks. Likewise Americans do not understand the pain of disasters happening far away as much as local populations do. This explains that this ad from Brazil is shocking Americans.

Nonetheless there is no fundamental difference between two deaths and numbers are important.

The aftermath of the war in Iraq has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths on real people with real families. These deaths have not been considered by Americans as much as the death of 9-11 victims and soldiers.

People and politicians need to pay more attention to numbers.
